Spotlight on Ashley Davis

As she began her persistance to play on fiddle, she has ridden her way to the heart of bluegrass music through the Great Smoky Mountains into Nashville with a performance at the SPBGMA awards of 2006 with the "DAUGHTERS OF BLUEGRASS."

As her name implies, Ashley means "beautiful meadow," and one may feel as though they are lying in a meadow as she plays.Ê She taught herself to play the fiddle in June 2002 at the age of 13. As her practicing improved, she taught herself "Amazing Grace," "Old Joe Clark," "Golden Slippers," "Maiden's Prayer," "Faded Love," and more as she was taken to jam sessions in June 2003. At her second jam session she was introduced to Mr. Leslie Sandy, bluegrass member of Bill Monroe's band in the 1950s. He plays guitar, upright bass, and fiddle as well as other instruments. Ashley practices daily three to five hours from CDs given to her at jams as well as artists such as Rhonda Vincent, Del McCoury band, the Grascals, Alison Krauss, and Carolina Road band from NC just to name a few. Her first performance on stage was with Lorraine Jordan's band, Carolina Road, in October 2004. She also performed with local bands such as Bill Jordan and Southern Bluegrass.

While performing with Southern Bluegrass in September 2005, Ashley was approached by staff writer, Kathie Bullard Harris,Êof the Fayetteville Observer for an interview on her interest in bluegrass music and fiddling. She made the cover of the "Saturday Extra" insert of the local paper with two pages to follow on her quest to continue to perform.

Ashley also plays the guitar, mandolin, banjo, upright bass and vocals most recently. Her favorite instrument is the fiddle in which she spends most of her days practicing. Ashley has performed at other shows such as the "Clayton Center" in NC with Carolina Road Band, in Smithfield for the "Legends in Bluegrass" with Marshall Stephenson and the Dixie Mountain Boys, and Union Grove for "Fiddler's Grove." Her first radio interview was July 15,2006 with Randy Holmes at WPYB 1130 AM in Benson, NC and Ashley performed on fiddle and vocals with her guitar.

As Ashley continues her education for her senior year of high school and business education, she continues to play periodically at May's Store in Kipling. She hopes to see fans from across NC and hopefully across the nation. Ashley is grateful for the support she has received and hopes to receive in the future. THANK YOU!!!!
