Spotlight on The Baker Boys The Baker Boys are a traditional bluegrass band based in central Indiana. The Baker Boys are lead by and centered around two young men, Jessie and Taylor Baker. Although the boys have only been playing for a few years, their passion for bluegrass music is driving them ahead by leaps and bounds. Jessie Baker, 15, is lead singer and banjo player for the band. Jessie is the 2005 Brian Friesen Banjo Award winner, for which Jessie was given a Deering Saratoga Star Banjo. The award was presented August 6, 2005, by Mike Snider on The Grand Ole Opry, where Jessie and Taylor played two songs on two shows that night, thrilling the crowd! Taylor Baker, 13, plays mandolin for the band and sings tenor harmony. Taylor plays a Grady Custom Mandolin, made by Grady Jones of Flint, MI. Taylor is a fantastic up and coming mandolin player. His hard wok has landed him an opportunity to play with many mandolin greats. Recently, Taylor was invited to play with the the legendary Frank Wakefield on Frank's upcoming cd project. David Jewell, rhythm guitar player for The Baker Boys, comes from an enormously talented musical family. David's love of the music and its history shows through in his playing.
