Finding the Right Teacher

When considering the kind of music teacher you need for your child
you should keep in mind the following questions.

1. Does the teacher really enjoy working with children?
2.
Can the teacher communicate more difficult concepts in simple terms?
3.
Is the teacher really experienced in his/her craft?
4.
Does the teacher express a genuine love for the music they teach?

These are general guidelines to consider when looking for a music teacher for your child. A teacher that is impatient will certainly cause your child more stress than is necessary. Fear of letting the teacher down is not the best motivator. Bluegrass music should never be hard and complicated, hence any of the more difficult concepts should be easily simplified by the teacher. An experienced teacher is a teacher that can convey a great deal of knowledge based on having been in the trenches playing music. You don't necessarily need a teacher who has toured the world and recorded a dozen CDs to teach your child well. But a teacher with combat experience has an edge that many don't. If a teacher truly loves the music they are teaching, it will have a great impact on inspiring the child to fall in love with the music as well. Remember, enthusiasm is contagious.
